we wait,
the echoes become avalanches, and we are caught mid-air, suspended in space
we've become ellipses, caesuras, the pauses between blinks
and we carry on waiting, the rhythm of your sine-wave heartbeat
floating through the valleys of our thoughts
there are wells in our hearts, and every night the water freezes over
until your silence lodges itself like icebergs between our teeth.

we wait,
and suddenly your body lurches,
the radiator smashes bricks against the floor
alarm bells sounding in our ears

we waited for this moment.

you touched like grief and your fingers felt like hollow shells
we sat and we listened, we waited until we could no longer hear
your heartbeat echoing across the landscape of your wrists
we waited;
until your body turned to ash
but your ghosts were still warm when i touched them.

and in those moments
i thought about the beauty of your soul leaving the constraints of your body
its light matter stretching, filling the room like a throbbing ocean
exploding into colors louder than your heartbeat

the seasons change from solid to liquid to gas,
but there's still dewdrops of foliage on our minds
the tides clean, but never forget

time disperses
but the afterthought of you,
the aftertaste of you,
stay melted in my mouth
fresh like broken icicles
away with my breath.
